Trend Micro’s $8M Mistake

July 15, 2005

Trend glitch costs $8 million

The faulty virus pattern file distributed by Trend Micro on April 23 disabled the computers of customers running Windows XP Service Pack 2. The company has said the faulty update was only available for 90 minutes, but it still hit thousands of desktops and angered customers.

Wow only 90 minutes out and they lose $8M. But I guess Trend Micro’s credibility as a leading antivirus maker is affected the most.

Harry Potter Craze

For the record I don’t know anyone 18 years old and below reading those.

From IMDB:

According to rumors that circulated the Internet, both Rowan Atkinson and John Malkovich were considered for the role of Lord Voldemort. Both rumors were proven to be untrue.

They made the right choice. Ralph Fiennes is more suited in playing Lord Voldermort.

Also from IMDB:

Over 3,000 girls turned up at the auditions for the role of Cho Chang, in London on 7 February 2004.

I remembered a rumor way back then that local actress, Heart Evangelista auditioned for the role of Cho Chang. Of course she didn’t get the role because only british actors/actresses are allowed in the film.

Korean Movie Review: “…ing” (2003)

July 14, 2005

...ing (2003)
Su-jeong Lim, Rae-won Kim, director: Eon-hie Lee

The moment I saw the movie title slowly appearing in the clouds above the ocean, I knew that I’m gonna like this movie. Heck the openning song is still playing in my head.

The Plot

Sick girl Mina meets free spirited “downstairs dude” Young-jae.
You’ve seen it before? Maybe but there’s more to it.

Why Watch It?

The writing is good. Almost all characters are funny. I even laughed out loud when Mina’s mother joked about her father being an alien. That’s a rare thing for me.

The imagery is beautiful and memorable. Kind of like photographs.
The soundtrack, being contemporary, is good as well. Makes you feel warm, happy and sad at the same time. It fits the film perfectly

But above all “...ing” is a drama about love and getting a hold of those special moments before they pass us by.

Unusual Title

“ing” in the english language is:

Used to form the present participle of verbs

I guess the film tells us that moments and people come and go. The only way to relive them is through photographs, sketches, memories and through people who became part of those moments.

The present is now. Cherish it.

Rating

If you’re looking for a touching and funny drama I suggest that you give “...ing” a try. It may not appeal much after repeated viewings but it remains on the top of my list of good Korean Romantic-Comedies. Makes me feel warm all over whenever I see it. A joy to watch.

Chopsticks

How to Use Chopsticks

Rules in using chopsticks

When I was little my aunt had this black chopsticks painted with little flowers in her China cabinet. I played with those until I got caught because I lost the other half.

Actually I never liked using chopsticks. I got even more hungry whenever we eat out. I always retreated to using spoon and forks. My 7 year old ego was shattered.

A few weeks ago, I tried my luck with chopsticks in eating noodles. The varnish came off. Euckk.

With the inspiration of Korean Dramas and Naruto, the drive to master the art of using chopsticks is alive in me again.

Now I’m proud to say that I can eat a whole bowl of ramen using chopsticks. My life is now complete.

Hey Arnold!… Schwarzenegger

Schwarzenegger making millions as muscle mag editor

And just last night I was thinking how many more “Schwarzenegger Flexes” I needed to do in order for me to attain the muscle bounded state of what I’d like to call “the Anwareminator“. I will be adored by millions soon.

Anyway, I don’t think it’s wrong for Arnie to make a few millions on the side while he governs California. At least he’s not using California’s budget on space travel, a new set of bling-blings, a sports car or whatever things movie stars like to spend on.

But isn’t it time consuming being the executive editor of two magazines? Isn’t he busy governing California or something? Or maybe the $8.1M they’re paying him is just for his image?
